CALLEY BLISS joined the Twin Cities music scene with a packed house performance at The Dakota in January of 2014, with Twin Cities stalwarts Jim Anton on bass (Johnny Lang), JT Bateson drums (Alpha Consumer, Fat Kid Wednesdays, The Pines), and Bryan Nichols on keys (Dave King, Bryan Nichols Quintet). She has added Jeremy Ylvisaker on guitar (Andrew Bird, Mark Mallman) to the core group and is writing and refining music for a sophomore solo record of music that smartly crosses the line of pop, jazz, and rock. Calley began her professional career in music as a session singer and call vocalist in the Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex while attaining her degree in jazz voice from the University of North Texas. She moved to New York City in 2007, awakening a passion for writing, in addition to performance, In addition to working as a vocalist and event producer in New York and New England, she independently released a debut solo record of nine original songs in March 2010. PIGEONHOLED was Bliss’ freshman experience writing, arranging, leading, and producing an entire recording project, with the help of engineer and producer Johnathan Jacobi of NashdySound. The record was recorded and produced at Peter Karl Studios in Brooklyn, with immense support and musical input thanks to a dedicated band including NYC instrumentalists Craig Akin on bass (Red Molly, Barnaby Bright, Sarah Gardner), Ross Pederson on drums (Snarky Puppy, Patricia Barber, Grace Kelly), Paul Orbell on guitars (Erin Seymour Sax, UNT One O’Clock Lab Band), Alastair Ottesen on saxophone and harmonium (Alastair Ottesen, John Guari), and Sean Fitzpatrick on piano and keys (Long Island University Faculty).
After a two-year hiatus from her solo career to help build curriculum and community as department chair at Fresco Arts Academy just outside of Boise, Idaho, Bliss returned to her hometown of Minneapolis, MN in the fall of 2013. In 2014 she started Entertainment Jill, a boutique business offering vocal performance, production, & coaching, with a mission to foster community and creative integrity for females in the music industry.
